Literature Text

There's a fire that's burning, brighter than the night,
There's a fire that's burning, brighter than life,
There's a fire that's burning, sharper than a knife,
There's a fire that's burning, but never the time is right,

(There's a fire that's burning) For every hand that holds it,
(There's a fire that's burning) Can never keep its grip,
(There's a fire that's burning) For the fire it always seems,
(There's a fire that's burning) Seems to seer the flesh,
(There's a fire that's burning) But the reasons why,
(There's a fire that's burning) Nobody seems to know,

(There's a fire that's burning) Then came along one day,
(There's a fire that's burning) A stranger into the land,
(There's a fire that's burning) One like none other,
(There's a fire that's burning) And he took it into his hand,
(There's a fire that's burning) All of their leaping raging form,
(There's a fire that's burning) And kept them in his hold,

And it seemed like one had finally passed the test,
But asked a question he was, just like all the rest,
Where does this power come from, how do you hold the flame?
Smiling pridefully, to himself only this power he claimed,

(There's a fire that's burning) And the flesh went away,
(There's a fire that's burning) That's the price that you pay,
(There's a fire that's burning) When you cannot simply say,
(There's a fire that's burning) The truth, forever as it may,
(There's a fire that's burning) To make the leaping flames sway,
(There's a fire that's burning) To keep the dark searing fire at bay,
(There's a fire that's burning)...
(There's a fire that's burning)...
(There's a fire that's burning)...
*Track 3 was a cover of "Waterloo Sunset" by the Kinks, and its lyrics were not put on here for they contained no original content of mine.

Here's my first try at being poet-detective! Let's see if I can read this somewhat correctly or if I am doomed to miserable failure forever. ;n;

Ahem. The fire is a metaphor for 'truth'; it brightens the night of ignorance, but it is too harsh, too real for anyone to accept. Everyone seeks truth at one point in their lives, but when they attempt to grasp it, it burns them; disillusions and breaks them. Some people spend their lives seeking it, and when they have succeeded more than the people around them, they are revered for their knowledge and wisdom. But then they make a terrible mistake. Rather than knowing that it is for truth's light that they climbed so high - they never would have begun if not for its appeal - they are taken over with pride, and believe that they are truly wise and knowledgeable through their own deeds and inherent superiority. They are no longer serving the truth... they are believing their own lies. So all that they had worked for has been in vain; it falls. The end. :3

^_^' So what's the verdict? Am I anywhere near the mark or am I condemned to a lifetime of crawling through a muddy street, chilled by rain and icy sleet... wishing for nothing more than to die, for all those times I heard people cry, "Failure, failure!" :3
